Top 10 events of 2012



Top 2012 Benin


  1.   As of 2012 there are 7,212 refuges residing in Benin
  2. On 23 October 2012, the BBC announced that the president's doctor, niece, and former commerce minister had been arrested in a plot to poison the president.
     
  3.      Five of their citizens, 4 men and 1 woman went to the Olympics and participated in athletics, boxing, judo, and swimming
  4. In Côte d'Ivoire, sustained efforts by the international community and the Government to improve security have met with only limited success. Sporadic attacks on civilians, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and the military, allegedly by anti-government rebels, continue to be reported.
  5.  High Crime rates: Three armed gunmen utilizing a motorbike robbed at least eight ex-pats over the course of a four-month period in the neighborhood of Haie-Vive. Coincidentally, this is where most of the embassy housing is located. These bandits robbed individuals at gun or knife point, late at night, or in the early morning hours as people returned from local bars or restaurants.
  6. On September 19, 2012, President Boni wrote to the High Authority for Broadcasting and Communication (HAAC), the statutory media regulatory body, to register his displeasure at Canal 3's broadcast of the press conference and accused the television station and other media houses for "disturbing public order."
  7. After considering the President's letter and request, the State-run-HAAC on November 22, 2012 suspended twoof Canal 3's interactive programmes, Actu matin and Arbre à Palabre, for two weeks and three months respectively.
  8. 2013 Cotonou — Researchers in Benin say they have developed an improved method for detecting malaria parasites in mosquito vectors that could help yield better estimates of malaria transmission intensity in different settings.

  10.  More than 100 graves have been desecrated in a cemetery near Benin's capital, Porto-Novo, police say. The grave robbers cut the heads off the bodies and also stole some internal organs.
