Some of the challenges in the education system in Benin:

• there continues to be low rates of enrollment in rural areas.
• families that live in poverty can't afford to send their children to school.
• even though school is free, families must still provide the uniforms and school supplies.
• some school buildings are really far from rural homes, so when children walk home for lunch
  they tend to not come back.
• there comes an opportunity cost with sending girls to school. most girls are needed in the home for help with younger children, and with farm and home work. 
• teachers are not certified to be teaching.
